Chairs with beanbags can sometimes lose their filling over time for various reasons (e.g. when a curious child opens the zipper). Or maybe you just want a chair with harder beans. Filling a chair with beanbags at home may seem like a daunting task, but it’s quick and easy if you just follow five simple steps.
Before you go any further, take a look at this video. Then you can get an idea of what we’re going to do here.
There are a few things you need to make the replenishment process easier:
- One or two friends:Filling a chair with beanbags is a job for two people, although technically it can only be done when necessary.
- Room without fan and open window:The filling material of the beanbag is light and easy to blow with a fan or even a light breeze when the window is open. Therefore, close the windows and switch off the fans to minimize this irritation.
- Fill the ottoman on a clean floor and keep the vacuum cleaner at hand:Again, if something bad happens, the work can get dirty. Fill the ottoman on a clean floor and prepare the vacuum cleaner in case something is spilled.
- Funnel: You can buy or make it; this tool reduces the risk of spillage.
- Safety Pin:This will help you open the zipper of your chair with beanbags.
- Bean bag filler:Bean bag filler can be bought online or in the shop. Most garbage bag fillers are made of polystyrene, so they are cheap and easy to find.
Step 1: Workspace preparation
Turn off the fans and close the windows to minimize air circulation. Don’t forget that polystyrene bean bags are exceptionally light to fill and can easily be blown away anywhere by the wind. Also work on a clean surface; if possible, choose a hard floor to work on and not a carpet, as this makes cleaning easier.
Finally, prepare a vacuum cleaner in case of spillage. A manual vacuum will suffice, because there won’t be much clutter.
And make sure everything you need is easily accessible in the workspace. Because once you start emptying a chair or filling a bag of beans, it’s hard to stop the work and get to the object or tool you need.
So make sure that at least the following list is ready and easily accessible in your workspace.
1. Funnel2. 2. Safety pin
3. Your partner has an ottoman
4. Container or bag to empty the beanbag and move the old filler
5. If you are using a bag, make sure that another person or another tool that can hold the bag is ready
6. 6. Rope for attaching the bag or lid to close the container
7. New chair filler with beanbag
Step 2: Enter a partner in
Catching a partner is one of the most elementary but also most crucial steps, because the process of filling bean bags is much faster and less messy than if you tried it yourself. Just bring a friend or relative; it won’t take more than a few minutes of their time, and if they love you or your poof, they will.
However, if you want to use a bag to take the candy out of your chair with a bag of beans, you will need another person. Plan it.
Step 3: Seat not closed and emptywith footstool
Most ottomans come with a zipper, but the zipper doesn’t necessarily have a flap that you can squeeze out, making unpacking infinitely more delicate than it should be. (The aim, however, is to prevent you from accidentally unpacking and distributing the product, which is therefore necessary in one way or another).
To bypass the zipper, simply insert an open safety pin into the zipper opening and secure the safety pin. Voilà! You’ve got a working zipper. Open the ottoman with the zipper up. If all goes well, the filler that stays inside should go to the bottom and not be spilled everywhere.
How to empty a chair with a bag of beans?
And this is the beanbag chair that empties the step. You must take this step with extreme caution. Normally, beans are very light and can be spilled anywhere if you make a mistake. Take a large container (it may be plastic or another) that has dried well. And it’s better to have a small mouth than a container body. And it must have a lid that closes perfectly.
If you can’t find that perfect container, you can go with a big bag. However, make sure it is at least the size of your ottoman, as you intend to empty your seat from the ottoman and move its padding into the bag or container of your choice. Make sure that the container or bag is not damaged.
Now place the container or bag of your choice with the correct balance on the floor. In order to place a bag, you may need the help of a third party or another tool that may be useful to you. Now insert the funnel correctly into the opening of the container or bag. With your partner’s help, you can lift the stool out of a bag of unbuttoned beans, so he has a unbuttoned mouth to put down and the direction up into the funnel.
If you did it perfectly, you could see that the chair full of bean bags moved perfectly to the container or the bag you had placed on the floor through a funnel. If it doesn’t move properly, you can shake the beanbag chair a little or adjust the funnel with the beanbag.
Gently shake the bean sachet chair until all the beans in a container or sachet have been completely removed from the bean sachet chair. Now close the lid of the container tightly, as if it had fallen by accident. The result is that the beans are poured everywhere and you can’t clean your workplace in a couple of hours. When you have used the bag, make sure it is securely fastened.
Now you can give it to a company that processes styrofoam beads or anything else you had in your backpack. Dispose of the remote refuelling system properly, as it is not environmentally friendly. The first and hardest part is now over. You managed to empty the ottoman chair.
Step 4: Filling bean bags
Ask your assistant to keep the ottoman chair open while the opening is unlocked. You only have two workstations, this is the last one. You can do it. The first one was to help you empty the seat in front of the beanbags.
On the one hand you have to put the funnel in the hole with the narrow spout of the funnel into the seat of the beanbag, so that it doesn’t go everywhere when you start pouring. After inserting the funnel, fill the bean bag with a free hand.
Fill your ottoman until you have reached the desired degree of elasticity. You can slowly shake the beanbag as you fill the chair so that the new upholstery is correctly placed in the depth of the chair.
(Note: the funnel can slow things down, but it saves you time in the long run because of the calming mess factors).

Step 5: Closed chair with ottoman
Use your MacGyver’d zipper to close the seat opening in your ottoman. If there was a stain that covered the lightning, keep your mouth shut. Now clean your workplace with a vacuum cleaner, as it can secrete microparticles of EPS that end up in your lungs when you breathe. It’s dangerous for your health.
In some cases, it only takes a few days for the new beans to take shape. So if the chair with the bag of beans you just filled isn’t in perfect condition, you don’t have to be afraid. Just be patient. Wait a few days. And he’ll come back in good shape. In the meantime, shake a bag of beans regularly.
Now you’ve got a chair filled with a bag of beans. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go!
(Note: If you are not satisfied with the filling level, simply repeat steps 4 and 5 until you reach the desired level).
